What to Bring to Your First PMU Consultation at Aura Beauty아우라 뷰티 첫 상담에 챙겨오시면 좋은 것들

Taking the first step toward the ease and confidence of permanent makeup is so exciting. Here at Aura Beauty in Duluth, I see the delight and anticipation in my clients every day. But I also know that your first consultation can bring up some questions. What should you expect? What should you prepare? My goal is to make this a comfortable, collaborative, and rewarding experience from the moment you walk in.
Think of your consultation as our first creative session together. To make the most of our time and ensure we are perfectly aligned on your beauty goals, a little preparation goes a long way. This simple checklist will help you gather everything you need for a successful first visit, whether you're coming from just down the road in Suwanee or making the trip from Atlanta.
1. Your Beauty Blueprint: Inspiration Photos
Words are helpful, but pictures are priceless when it comes to defining aesthetic goals. Bringing in photos helps me see the world through your eyes and understand the look you're hoping to achieve.
What Kind of Photos Are Best?
- Photos of your own makeup: Do you have a specific way you love to pencil in your brows or line your lips? Snap a photo on a day you feel your makeup is perfect. This is incredibly valuable information about your personal style.
- Healed PMU results: Look for photos of healed permanent makeup on people with a similar skin tone and facial structure to yours. Pay attention to terms like “healed nano brows” or “healed lip blush.” Freshly done PMU looks darker and sharper than the final, settled result.
- Celebrity or model photos: If there’s a particular brow shape or lip tint you admire, bring it in. We can analyze what you like about it (the arch? the color? the thickness?) and adapt it to best suit your unique features.
It’s not about copying a look, but rather about gathering inspiration. We will work together to customize a shape and color that is 100% you.
2. Your Health History: Medications & Skin Sensitivities
Your safety is my absolute top priority. Permanent makeup is a form of cosmetic tattooing that involves breaking the skin, so it’s crucial that I have a clear picture of your overall health and any factors that might affect the procedure or healing process.
Please come prepared to discuss:
- Medications: Are you taking any blood thinners like Aspirin or Warfarin? Have you used Accutane in the last year? These can significantly impact skin sensitivity and healing.
- Supplements: Even common supplements like fish oil, vitamin E, and turmeric can have blood-thinning effects. It’s best to pause these for a few days before your actual procedure, but it's good to mention them at the consultation.
- Skin Products: Regular use of products with active ingredients like Retin-A, retinoids, or strong chemical exfoliants (AHAs, BHAs) in the treatment area can make the skin more fragile. We will need to plan for you to stop using these products on the area for a period before and after your appointment.
- Allergies: Have you ever had a reaction to topical anesthetics (like lidocaine), latex, or specific metals? Please let me know.
Being transparent about your health ensures a safe procedure and beautiful, long-lasting results.
3. Your Canvas: A Bare Face & Prepped Skin
To create the most natural-looking enhancement, I need to see your natural features clearly. Please arrive at your consultation with a clean, makeup-free face, especially in the area we will be discussing (brows, lips, or eyes).
How to Prep Your Skin Before We Meet
- Hydrate: Drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your visit. Hydrated skin is healthy skin!
- Avoid Irritation: Don't wax, tweeze, or thread the area for at least a few days beforehand. Avoid harsh scrubs or exfoliants as well.
- Skip the Vices: Do not consume alcohol or caffeine (coffee, tea, energy drinks) for at least 24 hours before your appointment. Both can increase blood flow and sensitivity, which can affect the process.
A NOTE ON CAFFEINE: We know it's tough, especially for morning appointments! But skipping your coffee or tea for 24 hours beforehand makes a significant difference in your comfort and the final result.
Seeing your skin in its natural state allows me to accurately assess your undertones, hair growth patterns, and skin type. This is essential for selecting the perfect pigment and technique for you. It’s a key part of my PMU philosophy.
4. Your Voice: Questions & Expectations
Your consultation is a conversation, not a lecture. This is your time to ask anything and everything on your mind. There are no silly questions! I encourage you to even write them down so you don’t forget.
Here are some common questions you might consider:
- What is the healing process really like?
- How long will the results last for my skin type?
- What are the differences between the various services you offer, like nano brows vs. combo brows?
- What is Pharmesthetic Superjection, and am I a candidate for it?
